The Pick and The Draw

The most critical — and most dangerous — moment in law enforcement is the ambiguous instant when a hand moves toward the waistband. Is it a weapon or a phone? A draw or a pick? The movement looks identical. The outcome is completely different. This exercise trains your eye to read the difference.

The Draw

Hand moves to waistband with intent. Grip formation begins. Finger extends toward trigger guard. Speed and tension in the movement.

The Pick

Hand moves to pocket or waistband for a device. Lighter touch. Different grip. Different finger position. Different body posture.

How it works: A person flashes on screen. You see the ambiguous moment — hand moving. You call it: DRAW or PICK. Then the reveal shows what it actually was. Study the cues shown after each round. Speed increases as your accuracy improves.
